Many of you that work on your
on banjos know that you often want to change bridges in your search for
that "perfect" tone .
Well this can be tricky, while
the strings are under tension and if you are not careful you will wind
up with a broken bridge if you attempt to remove it under string tension.
And also, since we have to set
our bridges for correct intonation, we need sometimes to be able to move
the bridge slightly to find that spot it needs to rest on.
I showed my wife Karen my idea of what I wanted and she took on the task of making these sets, which include:
3 Jax that will lift the strings
over the top of 1/2" -9/16"- and 5/8"
bridges
.....And a wooden base
******************
They are nothing fancy, and are kept simple which reflects in the cost
They will do the job for you and make life alot easier if you change bridges often.
Choose a stringlift for the bridge
you wish to remove/adjust/replace
They are stamped with the sizes
on the top of each lift
Slide it in under the strings
You can go in from this way, or from the front side,
it does not matter as it works either way
Then flip it back, which will transfer the string
tension to the lift and off of the bridge.
In this" partial lifted" stage,
you can also use it to move a thin brittle bridge to and fro when looking
for intonation.
At full lift, the lever sets against the head and
there is only slight pressure on the bridge which is now easily removed
And it is stable, so you can do what you wish and
slide another in when ready
Get your strings lined up with the slots...
And you are ready to go!!
