The latching device is unique to Super Orph's and Lange Made banjos
This resonator is also unique to Supers as far as I know
Solid rosewood back
Graving color gone from Logo, Ill fix that
Inlay VG, board is dried out, I will oil it with Tung
Replacement tuners VG
No heel issues
I'll pull these to do the work
Cool heel inlay
Double stamped not uncommon if it was done poorly or misstamped
Head replacement
Top of the line
Really neat original skin head replacement
And an original sales invoice, pretty nifty
Ready to pull the flesh ring for reuse
Removing the old one, it had a tear starting under the flesh ring
besides being pulled to the max.
polishing the rim skirt and I wax them for ease in the installation
Muslin cloth around flesh ring helps keep from pinching during install
Took off old tape and polished armrest
Wetting out the new hide
It has to be very low crown on this model and that's a trick to
keep it that way.
Just barely enough to hold the hook and over to the other side we
go
Getting things even before pull
Nice and even
As it dries you can see the brand again
All hook sets on and ready to just snug up and then its trim time
Nice high tension hoop, that's what I want
Brand new blade, flip it halfway round for a smooth cut.
Still slack for now its wetted pretty well
All trimmed and ready to cure
Oiling up the board
Blackening the inlay with jewelers wax
That's nicer
Curing, and spritzing to tighten it up nicely before any more hook movement
She will cure out and be ready to go on up to the Eureka Banjo Rally real soon
Sanding off the rough surface with 320 grit
Burnishing back down with wax paper, this also helps to repel moisture
until natural oils and age seals the pores
I do this inside and out
The C tuner is just SHOT, locking up
I have a close replacement in worn gold, its going in there
Close enough.
These tuners are the worst Elton replacement tuners I know of, they
are common to go out
All to tension
Lighting reinstalled
Ready to go back to the "Big Easy"
