In 1965 my father purchased this banjo at Whittles Music Company in Dallas, Tx on Oak Lawn Blvd.
My father said he paid about $1,400.00 back then but, Value isn't the issue. I am looking for my old friend.
In March of 1989, someone broke into my home and stole my banjo and many other things. Those other things could be replaced but my banjo was one of a kind.
As I understand, from what I have been told about the history of this banjo, there were only about 30 of the Gretsch #9's made and although some were made similar to each other, since each one was all custom made, each one was destinctive to itself.

There was always something different in its design that set it apart from another.
Let me know if you have different information than this.
Pictures are not close up but you can see pretty good detail. For a better look at what it looks like, you can go to banjoworld.de/High172.htm
This is a site that has pictures of rare banjos. This particular banjo on this site is almost exactly like mine that was stolen. Since each banjo was custom made, none of them are exactly alike. The major difference that I see is that mine had a bow on the lower portion of the resinator and the design on the frets are a little different.

I am also offering a reward for any information leading to the recovery of my old friend. If anyone has seen this banjo, please don't hesitate contacting me. Info will be held in total confidence. Return of my old friend with the reward "No questions asked"
Maybe you know of a club, organization, or some type of periodicle or vinue that could get the word out to look at my listing.
I am happy to chat about this banjo.
