SKINNING A LATE MODEL VEGAVOX

This banjo was TJ's sister's  originally and she wasn't playing it so he bought it from her so that he could have a Vox banjo to replace his other.

Since his B'day is coming up I choose the finest skin I had left in my quality hide section and now we are getting it wetted out.

These are no longer available and I doubt we will ever see this quality emerge again.
Mad Cow disease had an effect on the banjo and bongo world as far as heads from the UK, yes indeed.
This is on par with the finest USA skins of days gone by and the tanneries are gone which produced that level of  tanned skins.

This is the last of the Boston made Vegas with the real Tubaphone ring.
The plant was moved to Needham Heights Mass, and then on to Nazareth PA with Martin.

Mounting

Its a tight fit with this one and Im taking it easy, its too nice of a head to compromise

Ready to trim excess.

The remnants will be distributed between the Boston Terriers, Corgis..Hounds...etc
Waste not want not
I think I am praying for a nice outcome, tonally!

Lets dry it out

brought to tension

Changed Perloid buttons to a more correct Ivoroid look

Also, I added some inlay, the Vox 1 had blocks and dots, and I removed the dots to add blocks, and then there was enough room to add a 20th fret an I did this as well.
TJ had noticed it had a big runout at the end and I agreed.

With plenty of runout at the fingerboard end, it looks factory

Also, it had no armrest and I fabbed one from a correct example that was made for another type banjo.
We are testing with our usual "Benchmark" bridge, the vintage 3 footed Bacon non inserted, sure to give the most brightest tone of any bridge in our opinion.

Sounds great , looks good, and now it has a job to do!

We also got a full set of frets in the Trujo so it is back up to speed.

The entertainment is good this week!
Don;t make too much fun of the Harmony....
It plays out really fine and in the right hands.....super cool.

Now I have him at "work" we are looking for problems on  Joe's Ibanez Artist

And I'm getting a playout on Barrys AccuVox, and I have to say "not too shabby", even without a real setup its hitting really well.

They look like "Close kin" but are really worlds apart.
