This is an heirloom banjo, so I will only go so far, leaving some patina but making it to where it can be played and enjoyed.
The neck is very straight, and the Bakelite rim of course, is still round and ready.
These make VG players regardless of the intrinsic value, and since this one is priceless, I will enjoy making it hit on all 5 cylinder's.

Rim polished and waxed.

Old head removed, will re-use flesh ring.

Rust removed from hardware.
I will be using a vintage hide head from a banjo that was 11-13/16"

Starting to dry.

Jerky strips :)

The original topside.

Cracks repaired around 5th peg.

Getting the yellowed finish off of the white places.

Sealing numerous cracks with thin CA.

All patina remains on the peghead, just clear over it.

Ready for the brown finish.

Dry, ready to trim.

All polished and waxed with paraffin. (Wax paper)

I will deal with this now, it requires blck sanding and a new neck finish.

Finish removal from Poplar neck.

All gunk removed from MOP dots.

Frets dressed, adding mineral oil.

Fitting the nut, and vintage friction 5th peg.
