THE NECK
I have just christened the banjo, "The Diatribe"
It has a checkered past, and now it had to deal with me.

After going over the templates I saw  hat this neck is wider by design by a bit, and that I would be constrained  by the templates being taken from the neck profile that the customer wished for.
Other that this, I went forward with the shaping.
After the heel reduction, I got out my drill press powered shaper to reduce that area.
And since "no good deed goes unpunished" here at the Haven,

I watched that high dollar shaper bust off a piece of its blade and gouge a 4.5 " section up by and onto the heel, about 1/8" deep by 1/8" wide.
Being the person I am (HIGH BP/Anxiety/TEMPER) I threw a fit, walked out of the shop with the tooling and my fishing rod, went to the pond and flung that tool as far into the pond as I could get it.

Caught 3 catfish and left to go see what I could do.

After all of the recovery effort and the constraints of the area of where the 5th peg was drilled I ended up a little thinner at heel to 17 that I wanted  and  since I had to incrementally carry that new thinner profile on up the neck it came out with me having just enough under the 5th peg.
Also, heel cap is a tad shorter from the re-curve.
I wish I had taken pics of the gouge but I was just too damn mad about it.

This will go into the category of "The last time" because without all of my old tooling and jigs it ain't no fun, no more!

So after the horror story since I like to post the good, and the bad,...MOVING ON.
